National S’Mores Day!

I always love hearing what weird national day it is. Facebook is great for that as lots of friends share each day. Today, August 10th, is National S’mores Day! It’s not too late to celebrate it with your family today! They are gooey, messy and yummy all at the same time.

What is a S’more?

If you don’t already know, they are a delicious treat that can be enjoyed by a campfire, so August is a perfect month for National S’Mores Day to happen. They can be enjoyed year round though, even if there is no campfire nearby. You can use the oven or a microwave.

What do I need to make S’Mores?

There are only three ingredients, so they are easy peasy to make. Graham crackers, marshmallows, chocolate candy bar. They even sell marshmallows now that are big and fluffy for S’Mores. You can also purchase S’Mores kits that have everything you need inside.

Okay, I have the ingredients, what do I do with them?

Break a graham cracker in two halves. Place a piece of chocolate on top of one half. Roast your marshmallow by the fire. When the marshmallow is done the way you like it, place it on top of the chocolate, top with the other half of the graham cracker and ENJOY! If you don’t have a campfire available, pop the ingredients in the microwave together for 15-20 seconds and enjoy!

When were S’Mores invented?

They date back to the 1920’s. In 1927 the Girl Scouts recipe book printed the S’Mores recipe. There is an ongoing debate about whether or not the Girl Scouts actually invented them though. The name S’Mores is said to have come from children asking for “some more” after trying them 🙂

My kids enjoyed having S’Mores on the 4th of July, we have the ingredients here so I think we may need to surprise them with dessert tonight on National S’Mores Day!

There are loads of great S’Mores inspired recipes out there:
