Hand Dug Water Wells
Understanding your Dug Well
The construction of a dug well is simple; a hole several feet in diameter is excavated. The circular hole is then lined in stone or concrete pipe to prevent cave-ins. Depths of Dug wells are typically maxed at 25- 30 feet deep. The likelihood of contamination in a dug wells is extremely common, due to the fact that a high percentage of surface water enters the water table. It is extremely common for dug wells to come back with bacteria, nitrates/ nitrites and high sodium level. It is very important to maintain a strict water testing regimen if using a dug well for potable use.
In many areas dug wells are becoming prohibited for residential use because of the high contamination rate. Recent years many dug wells are becoming an issue with FHA/VA loans and/or buyers during real estate transactions.
Northeast Water Wells does not offer installation of Dug Wells however we continue to service existing dug wells and offer annual water analysis.
